If you don’t like to spend your lunch break waiting for the computers at CEU to boot up, you should read this. However, if you’re into masochist activities you are welcome to spend your precious time in front of a computer that works with the speed of a snail on ecstasy.
We are all chased by deadlines, readings, papers, theses, and more or less zealous supervisors. You know the drill. So, in this context, where things happen so fast around you, I wonder how much time we waste in the computer labs at CEU. Since we are in the 21st century, an era of speed and fancy gadgets, I would expect that printing, let’s say a forty pages text, should not take longer than five minutes (and I am quite reasonable on this). So why on earth I have to spend 20 minutes in front of a computer just to be able to read my damn e-mail. Moreover, opening two pdf’s simultaneously is a task that these computers can rarely accomplish. Try that once and you will see the computer getting stuck just like Herman Cain did when he tried to talk about Libya. But that’s a story for another day.
Honestly, changing the computers won’t be a good solution. Since most of you use these computers just for printing documents and readings, perhaps the better idea is to improve the “laptop print” service. I’m in my second year at CEU, and I still have no clue how that thing works, nor I have met someone who does.
If someone knows how that works, or has any suggestions on the topic, please send an e-mail to ceuweekly@ceu.hu, or comment on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheCEUWeekly)
