All the aforementioned corporations –and their unions- will protests around Budapest today against the new austerity measures proposed by the government. Talks and negotiations between the Minister of Interior and the Unions have been going for more than two weeks, during which there was an armistice and therefore no protests.
However, previously on April 16 of the current year, more than 10,000 people have gathered around Heroes Square in order to pressure the government to withdraw the recently proposed policies, which would increase the retirement age and decrease the benefits of the agents.
Union leader Peter Konya said they are protesting because they want a life career model rather than a “career death”. On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that is in talks with the unions and open to receive and evaluate their proposals.
Part of today’s demonstrations will go from the Parliament through Nador utca, exactly in front of CEU. Therefore, we advise you take all the cautionary measures.. including quietly taking your camera and getting some good pictures.
