Romantic and erotic poetry in St. Valentin’s day

Last February, the literary club of CEU known as Blank Pages Society organized a poetry reading to celebrate St. Valentin’s day. The event took place at the newly acquired building of Nador 13, in what used to be the lobby of a posh hotel specially refurbished to host some of the best writers from CEU and around. About 30 people participated in reading and enjoying poems of romance, misunderstanding and the so frequently experienced entanglement of passion and pain.
The ceremony began with a speaker and a rose. When she finished reading her piece she gave the rose to another participant for him to read his poem. Each time a reader finished she passed the flower to someone else to keep on flowing. As a shibboleth for souls in love the rose kept flowing from hand to hand until someone had the fortune to take the flower home.
Some poems were written by members of BPS, some other came from vastly known and well-loved poets. All of them were read and listened with equal joy.
The readers mixed with the audience and all enjoyed some wine, sweets and home made cakes and cookies. We dare to think that later they enjoyed more substantial pleasures.
As a sample of what was read find below a translation of a poem named ‘Naufragos’ (Shipwrecked), written by the celebrated Julio Cortazar.
