Hungarian Romanis that live on the village of Gyongyospata (90 km east of Budapest) are in fear; and the reason is that a group called Vedero (Defence Force) has decided to organize a three day military training just next to the Roma community.
The atmosphere seems boiling and Aladar Horvath, from the Roma Civil Rights Movement, has denounce the lack of response by the authorities, whom does not seem to be providing an institutional response able to decrease the confict. On the other hand, Tamas Eszes, commander of Vedero (the Defence Force), said this was not a racist group and it had not take part in anti-Roma protests; furthermore, he stated that Vedero’s was not affiliated to any political party.
However it may be, the fact remains that almost 300 people (mostly women and children) have been evacuated and will not return to this Roma community until the three day military excercise is over.
Earlier this month on April 2, the rightist political party Jobbik hold another demonstration –this time against "Gypsy criminality", in the village of HejĹ‘szalonta. You can see some graphic evidence of the demonstration in the video below.
Hungarians should be deeply concern with these narratives and expressions of hate speech: Yugoslavia and many other cases remind us that nothing good can come out of it.
