Corvintető Goes Heavy

In our Party Diary series we have introduced you to Corvintető before. The introduction was brief yet to the point: if you like electronic music – no, wait, if you like good electronic music – check this place out.  However, one of its recent events seemed a bit...unexpected. Why? From industrial beats and a mass of people moving to some dub step music, it has turned into a crowd of lads jumping to properly heavy mix of guitars, drums, and, as one of the bands has described itself, mass militant poetry. What was happening there???

A concert of two tribute bands at once! One, a band called Subscribe, which is a tribute band of Rage Against The Machine (RATM), and another one called Science Or Societythat is paying its tribute to System of a Down (yes, the takeabrushandputalittlemakeup ones!). Both tribute bands, to be honest, were unknown to us and, due to that ignorance, we had no idea what to expect. “For someone to have a voice like the main guy from System, hmmmm, let’s see if this possible…” we thought skeptically. Well, in any case, at least we’ll get a dose of live music, and that’s always good.

Let me tell you: the skepticism was gone in a matter of seconds. When Science Or Society, the first band, started playing, we raised our eyebrows (in a good way!) and simply shut up. While moving to the sounds of Toxicity, one of their most known songs, we’d look at each other and – well, trying to shout it somehow louder than the music itself – would simply say: “My lord, the guy’s voice! The band…the band…sounds like System of a Down indeed!” Hmm something to expect of a tribute band, I guess.

When Subscribe started playing, there was one song eeeeveryone was awaiting (for some, it was one of the few songs by RATM that they knew, to be honest). And although all the songs indeed sounded like RATM – the funky guitar sounds, the voice, the drums – when Killing in the Name Of began, suddenly every person knew the lyrics and were shouting them out together with the charismatic lead singer of the band. A doze of energy received!

That energy at the very end of semester – and not just then, of course – is definitely much needed. So if you like heavier music, Corvintető might as well bring some bands you might like in the future, too. As the weather is looking like something closer to spring, Corvintető’s terrace will be highly appreciated. Partying in the name of…
