Peru has new elected President

After a second electoral round, Peruvians finally choose a new president this last Sunday. The competition was between Ollanta Humala, a former army colonel that took part in an armed revolt in 2000 and that also contended in the presidential elections of 2006, losing for a small margin against Alan Garcia.
The other candidate was Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who governed Peru between 1990 and 2000; during his government, Peru was able to control inflation and to finish with domestic terrorist groups. However, he is now in jail because of human rights violations and corruption.
Ollanta Humala won over Keiko Fujimori in a very tight competition; the elected president displayed an inclusive message, though he clearly supports a lefty agenda where the state plays a bigger role in correcting market failures and especially, in providing a safety network to vast social groups that are excluded under the current neoliberal model.
