Dominique Strauss-Kahn, current managing director of the International Monetary Fund was detained last weekend in NYC under allegations that he committed sexual harassment against an employee in the hotel he was staying. Strauss-Kahn has agreed to scientific tests that could provide evidence of struggle between the hotel’s maid and IMF leader (for example, DNA on the skin or under the fingernails). IMF External Relations director release the following statement:
“IMF Managing Director Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York City. Mr. Strauss-Kahn has retained legal counsel, and the IMF has no comment on the case; all inquiries will be referred to his personal lawyer and to the local authorities. The IMF remains fully functioning and operational.”
On the other hand, Strauss-Kahn was perceived as the opposition French politician able to dispute power to Sarkozy in the upcoming elections. In this sense, his arrest has also turned upside down French politics.
