The best bar in the world

Lonely Planet recently made a poll entitled ’The 100 Greatest Bars of the World’. To our greates surprise, not only two Hungarian venues made it to the top 10 list, but while Szimpa kert became third, the A38 club actually won the contest!

Although both places deserve to be on the list of the greatest bars in the world, it would be unfair not to point out that the results might not be absolutely representative. While the A38 boat got more than 13 000 votes, 4 400 was enough for our beloved ruin pub to take the third place. To secure the last place among the top 10, Kuala Lumpur’s Palate Palette needed only 93.

Still, the CEU Weekly would like to take the opportunity to tell the readers about the A38 boat. It is a decommissioned Ukrainian stone hauler ship from 1968 that has been recycled as a bar and live-music venue, located at the Buda side of the Petőfi bridge.Apart from its unique atmosphere, the excaptionally colorful palette of artists separate A38 from the other venues in Budapest. Take a moment to check the English language calendar at www.a38.hu/en/programs, and see it for yourself! You will not be dissapointed.
